Do you have a coin you are going to resolve to buy? Plan to downsize your set to more specific interest? Have a better organizational system? Determine to upgrade a set? Start a set? Finish one? Post those resolutions if you have them! Dimeguy's 2022 Numismatic Resolution: 1.) Improve my photographic skills enough to catalog at least 2 of my completed sets. 2.) Purchase a 1909 S Lincoln Cent (No VDB) 3.) Purchase 1938 D Walking Liberty Half 4.) Purchase 1921 D Walking Liberty Half 5.) Upgrade my Franklin Half spotters All are adventurous, I know, but a guy can dream.
I'd like to add one or two to my just started Flying Eagle Cent series. I picked up the 1857 PCGS MS64 this year. For 2022 I'd like to add the 1858 PCGS MS64 small letters and large letters. The 1856 in PCGS MS64 is 99.999% not happening. Maybe in P01 or FR02. If I'm feeling really randy maybe I can convince my wife to bless an AG03 purchase. Would be really nice to have the whole series in MS64 though. Ahhhhh to dream.
My resolution: No more purchases from the US Mint. I have already turned off my Enrollments. This includes any new series' that the mint comes up with. No more of these 5 coins a year with 4 different mints and several formats. My ASE collection is complete (well one missing and we know what that one is) from 1986 to date and has ended. I have been getting coins from the mint since 1959 and will get no more. So, everyone show me what you get.
I also terminated my longstanding relationship with the US Mint. I cannot justify wantonly spending on releases Congress authorizes for a money grab. I know I've been spending ridiculous amounts for decades, only for them to be worth less than issue price. I did it for the love of the coin, the hobby and the desire to complete or continue collections. I've come to my senses and stopped stressing on the release date to get in queue on the computer and jump through the absurd hoops they make you jump through, only to be left without the offering. I began to feel better about not getting the offering when the prices became laughable. I actually felt like I was the winner. That's when I knew it was time to sever ties with the Mint.
1.) Acquire more National Bank Notes, with a particular emphasis on Florida and Tennessee. 2.) Expand my collection of classic commemoratives while further cultivating my interest in that subject. 2A.) Acquire any one of the following or any combination thereof: Maine Centennial Half Dollar, Alabama Centennial Half Dollar, Arkansas Centennial Half Dollar, Wisconsin Territorial Centennial Half Dollar, or the Iowa Centennial Half Dollar. 3.) Acquire an additional Large-Size $50 Federal Reserve Note. 4.) Improve my numismatic photography. 5.) Acquire coins for existing collections (e.g., United States Type or Canada Type).
1.) Continue to place my hoard in 2x2s. 2.) Finish IDing the remainder of the 7 lbs. of foreign I was bequeathed. 3.) Upgrade some of my album fillers.
My resolutions usually end up the same each year and are as follows: 1. Continue to lighten the collection and focus on quality pieces of my main collecting areas. This requires me to fully examine potential purchases and stop my tendency to impulse buy. This results in fewer purchases, but I end up with coins I enjoy more. 2. Hone my severely lacking photography skills, something I'm going to remedy by buying a digital camera soon. 3. Keep reading! I've already gotten several numismatic books on hand, currently reading one, to further my knowledge of the hobby. I also subscribe to three of my favorite coin magazines. 4. Make more personal numismatic connections. To this end, Cointalk has given me a great start on getting to know other people who collect, especially when it comes to my specific collecting preferences. 5. Have fun!
I remain dedicated to wine, women, song and shiny objects. I’d also like to improve my photography skills, I’m surprised thats such a popular one. I feel mildly better about myself. Thanks gang!
I have far too many hobbies that cost me way to much (motorcycles, coins, shot glass collecting, etc etc) but I digress. I'm not much for resolutions but here's my 2022 plan for Coins and the like 1. Inventory & catalog entire collection (already started, no pics) 2. Downsize a bit and narrow my focus instead of keeping everything I happen across 3. Buy more silver IF the prices don't skyrocket Last year I did a similar thing with my shot glass collection and narrowed my focus to complete smaller sub sets of things - I did ok for a few months
I turned off the US Mint notification process they use for propaganda. So, I closed all my enrollments and eliminated all contact lines. Goodbye mint divorced after 62 years. I will enjoy watching the fun things you all buy from them. Happy New Year!
Take my time a little more when purchasing coins at shows. I made a couple purchases in 2021 and when I got them home and studied them further, I discovered marks on them that I had not seen at the show. O wondered how in the world did I miss them and would not have purchased them had I seen them.
