Look what I just unpacked, My second Wolf coin. I think it’s nicer than my first one. This is from the collection of Doug Smith. It is well detailed and decently centered. Trier Mint, 332-3 Obv. VRBS ROMA, Roma left, helmeted, wearing Imperial cloak. Rev. Wolf to left, suckling Remus and Romulus, 2 stars above // TRS star.
It's a great coin, but are you sure it's from Doug Smith's collection? Do you still have the insert that came with it?
I stated what you wrote in the description for the coin. I’ll do some more checking tomorrow as I bought a total of six coins in that auction. Hope I didn’t get confused, which is happening more lately as I’ve been dizzy for the past 3 weeks.
@John Anthony Can you please answer the post in the second one above yours? I can’t make out what that is but he circled it in red. Thank you.
I think your assessment is correct - it's the right leg/paw of the she-wolf. The reason I question the provenance is that Doug doesn't recognize the coin. If the slip does in fact say Doug Smith Collection, I probably made a copy/paste error. It's not a huge deal, but one should be as accurate as possible about provenance.
The mystery 'object' is the little-known and unfortunate third brother Rastus. Romulus and Remus were hungry but so was the wolf!
@John Anthony and @dougsmit I had a bad day and not much sleep last night. I checked a little but f do I’d discover anything. I’ll check again tomorrow.
I have checked the information and I must admit to making a mistake. I apologize to @dougsmit and @John Anthony for my mistake. Thank you for contacting me and being patient while I researched it. I did a new thread with the same title but added Correction to convey what I did and to get the facts correct. Doug, John, if I failed to do so please let me know. My apologies to both of you and to CT. Providence on coins is so very important. Thank you.
