I just bought this as a start to the set. Was it a good deal and how does it grade. eBay item 110492631311
1860 rounded bust - vf35 per my grade. The washed out colors on the picture make me think cleaned, but I could be wrong. When you get it post some pictures showing the coin.
anyone else? Thanks for the help so far and for posting the pictures. In case the auction expires, I paid 45
wow, that is in really nice shape (at least to me, i have a hard time telling if cleaned from pics) anyway, i'm not advanced enough yet to give you a grade...but i can say this, it looks nice and sharp. good detail in the feathers and writing. granted, there is a few dings and scratches, but the coin is 150 years old! i would have paid $40-$45. i think it was a fair purchase...but again, that's just me.
I'd say a nice XF (that is if it hasn't been cleaned). The ribbon detail is strong and LIBERTY is there.
Keeping in mind its copper nickel, known for mushy strikes... and that's what I'm thinking here, not wear. I can see it as VF-35 to XF-40, and I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt here, although maybe I should be more conservative.
I'd agree with the VF grade, but I'd agree with lugia as far as the possible cleaning, though I'd say it HAS been cleaned (though, it does appear to be a scan, which can 'play' with a coins appearance).
Update thread: I received the coin and am looking for opinions as to a cleaning or not. The pics accurately display the coin in hand. Thanks.
Nice VF+. I think that your choice of background color for photo renders a more accurate portrayal of the coin than does the seller's pinkish background.
