Hi, I just got about 50 silver certificates fromt the bank for 50 dollars, but the problem is, is they have hawaii stamped on the front on both sides, and it's stamped in big letters on the back. Despite the stamps, are these still of any value?
A little info from ronscurrency.com Q: Why does my note have HAWAII printed on it? A: During the early part of WWII, the US had fears that Japan would overrun Hawaii. If this occurred, large sums of currency could be captured and used to fund their war effort. So, the US decided to issue the same $1 Silver Certificates, $5, $10 and $20 Federal Reserve Notes as used on the mainland, but with a brown seal and serial numbers and overprinted with the word "HAWAII" twice on the front and in large block letters on the back. Because these notes were distinctive, it would make it easy for the US to demonitize the notes if large amounts fell to the enemy. Later in the war, these notes were used in the US held Pacific Islands for the same reasons.
Hi Those are a little jackpot. See if by chance the numbers are in numerical order. be very careful as to how you handle them. Everything depends on the condition of the notes as to how much they are worth. You should post this to the section on paper money. You can get a better idea of what they are worth Have Fun, Bill
I was at an auction Sat. that sold two of them for $125.00 a piece. These were in nice shape, sounds like you got a bargain.
There again it really depends on the CONDITION of these bills , could be only a few dollars above face or alot of dollars above face ! Can you post a scan of these bills it would help alot !!
