It seems that the general consensus for paper money is that the better the condition the more desirable/valuable the note but Obsolete Notes have something that other Notes don't have which is "Issued Notes" that were hand-signed and used in circulation and "Remainders" that were never issued So, is condition still the most important factor when it comes to obsolete notes? I’m sure issued notes in perfect condition are much more difficult to come by so was just wondering if a note that was hand signed and circulated makes it either more desirable/valuable and would offset a lower grade or if a high grade note is still what collectors want regardless of whether or not it was issued or if it's a Remainder? And why aren’t there multiple portraits on currency anymore? So many of the obsolete and even early Federal Reserve notes have more than one person depicted on both the front and back. Is there some kind of ordinance preventing it? This obsolete has 7 historical figures on it and think it would be incredibly cool to see a modern design with multiple portraits

The sort of artistic design requires some creativity on part of the issuers I surmise. And besides, if you think about the more intricate the designs and such on a note the more difficult to alter or counterfeit. IMHO
Condition is everything! Yes obsolete notes are neat but while a worn note is less desirable it still has valuable. There are a lot of factors to consider to place a value on these type of notes.
My collecting desires rate obsolete notes this way: A. Perfect proof B. Perfect issued C. Perfect Remainder D. Imperfect Proof in highest condition I can afford E. Imperfect issued " F. Imperfect remainder "
@Insider , oh wow! Your obsolete selection criteria is so very specific; unfortunately mine is: 1. do I want it 2. can I afford it 3. If 1 is true or 2 is true then the note will belong to me!!
