My example of the same type:

    New Vitellius jpg version.jpg

Next, changing the subject, Drusus Minor or Drusus Major or the third Drusus (see below).

Here's a Drusus Minor/the Younger that I bought this fall but haven't posted before; I believe it's one of only two coins in his name issued by his father:

Drusus Minor or the Younger, full name Drusus Julius Caesar (13 BCE-23 AD, son of Tiberius and Vipsiana), AE As, 23 AD, Rome Mint, issued by Tiberius. Obv. Bare head left, DRVSVS CAESAR TI AVG F DIVI AVG N / Rev. PONTIF TRIBVN POTEST ITER around large SC. RIC I Tiberius 45, Sear RCV I 1794 (ill. p. 353), BMCRE Tiberius 99, Cohen 2. 28 mm., 10.4 g.

Drusus Minor As under Tiberius jpg USE THIS.jpg

By contrast, Drusus Major/the Elder (Nero Claudius Drusus) (38 BCE - 9 BCE) was Tiberius's brother, and the father of both Germanicus and the Emperor Claudius I. There was a third Drusus (known as Drusus Caesar) who was one of Germanicus's sons and, with his brother Nero (not the future emperor) the adoptive grandsons of Augustus following the death in AD 23 of Drusus Minor.

    neron drusus hs.jpg
Nero Claudius Drusus (AKA Drusus Major), sestertius. AE 35 mm, 27.16 g.
This is the last coin I bought, 3 months ago. I like it because it is my only Julio-Claudian dynasty sestertius, so large it doesn't fit in my early Roman Imperial Coins tray. The complete legend is readable, so I can show it to students and tell them to decipher it by themselves.
Obv.: NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMANICVS IMP, bare head left
Rev.: TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P·M·TR·P·IMP·P·P / SC, Claudius seated left on curule chair, holding branch in right hand; weapons and armor around.

NEXT : a sestertius of Tiberius to Claudius

This guy was said to have creeped around his palace, dressed as a female prostitute, and propositioning soldiers and male courtiers, and sometimes even went out into town dressed as a commoner to get some action.
