I recently purchaced a 2001 W Silver Eagle Proof (at a decent price if I may say) with original case and mint documentation. My question is why in the 2005 58th edition of the Red Book does it not have the W mint described as being a proof Coin? Only lists the P mint as being the Proof. Is it a typo in the Red Book? Thanks for the help here to all who reply!!!
The 2005 58th RedBook will only list up to 2004 Silver Eagles in Uncirc and Proof condition. The 2006 RedBook will have the 2005 "W" for proof. Look at page # 348 and you will see what I am talking about...also in the year 2000 all ASE proof were minted in "Westpoint" the only other "W" proof came as a special set in 1995 minted at Westpoint. All proof before 2000 except the 1995 have the "P" mint mark for the proof version minted in Phillie. I see what you are talking about..more than likely it is a screw up.. RickieB
The date in question is the 2001 W not the 2005. Red Book gives only $12.00 value for uncirculated. Nothing for a W proof. Lists $35.00 for 2001 P Proof. My question is Why doesn't the Red Book list a value for the 2001 W Proof Silver Eagle?
The book just got messed up---they say the W is the uncirculated and we all know that it is the proof....so that is just one of their many mess up's... Speedt
It's listed as a proof in the 2006 version for $35.00 which is a tad low, but then again the book is only printed once a year and always the year prior. 2006 was printed this year and 2007 will be available in early 2006. There are more accurate/up-to-date price guides out there as the RedBook was designed without the internet age in mind. I still like it though, so... Bone
Ever since 2001 all of the American Eagle, gold, silver & platinum coins have been minted at West Point - Unc & Proof both. The only difference is the Unc version does not have a mint mark.
