I went to a garage sale last year. The guy gave away several hundred pounds of coin books. Mostly Red Books, Blue Books, and albums. Most people would not even take them for free.
The really, really important thing about garage/yard/estate sales is you have to ASK. Most of these situations have only one or two individuals present so they don't like to put out anything that is possibly valuable or could walk away easily. Putting coins out on a table is just not good CENTS. So you should always ASK. I've found many, many items that way. Things besides coins they just don't want to put out on a table. If you ASK, they may just go for them.
Great war stories from many folks! Awesome. I go every week to estate sales.Nothing...When did people get these deals the 1960's LOL
About two years ago at a yard sale, got a roll of 1936 Buffalo nickles with full dates for $6.00, and Mercury dimes for 15c each 2 rolls most xf or better. That was fun. Then last spring got a au 1942 Walking half in the foreign jar for 20 cents. Oh, well. -O)
The best was a ring that they were selling becuase it was fake gold so they presumed the diamonds were all cz. Well i paid $20 for it. it was 3 grams of silver plated over with gold. However all authentic diamonds. 4.47 carats of IF diamonds. Gosh the money I got made me tickle. And I wasnt aware they were authentic diamonds, i was gunna have the jeweler throw them away until he made me a nice cash offer for all of them...
cool penny starter kit Just got back from Sunday garage sales and picked up this Dansco Lincoln Penny collector kit with a lot of pennies already in it. The guy says it has been stashed away since he was a kid and never really got into collecting , so never completed it. So I threw him a few bucks cause I figure the Dansco thingy would cost 2 - 4.00 at a book store. I haven't been able to exam the pennies very closely yet but this is going to save me a lot of time.
