Where can I find a list of the 1970s Lincoln cents that describe error in each one I know that's a lot of pennies but it would save me a lot of heartache if I can find one place to look for them. Does somebody on here have one. Stay safe happy holidays IMG_20211221_204640108.jpg

    There is no official list..
You just need to educate yourself on the different types of Mint Errors that can occur on coins. They appear on all denominations and on any year.

There is a list though for Die Varieties. That's different from a Mint Error. Such as Doubled Die, Repunched Mint Marks, small date, large date.. etc.

This website explains the difference Mint Error or Die Variety? (pcgs.com)

and Variety vs. Mint Error | NGC (ngccoin.com)

And this website has a list for varieties - Variety Vista Home

It was during the era of hand punching the die , before the engraving of the mm at the same time as the the coin faces. The punch was worn and the image "smushed" due to having to punching very hard steel die alloy. The coins struck from this die are the only ones with such defect. Why could it possibly sell for $100? , well at least one person fell for the "greater fool theory"....You can find someone else to resell at a higher price, which is often true, but not always. The first thing a newcomer should buy is a NONDIGITAL stereo microscope and a moveable light. "metal doesn't move, shadows do". It takes many years to gather the knowledge level you desire, but it will occur. Best of Luck and Merry Christmas! Jim

Stan McDonald US Error Coin Guide 2020. Not all '70's are included but the more dominate ones are. I use it often it's a good resource book. Hope this helps, good luck.

It's also likely the seller wanted $100. Doesn't mean they actually got that.

I personally don't like his books. I purchased one and it was horrible. He doesn't even use the correct numismatic terminology when showing Doubled die varieties. It's not a book on errors but mostly varieties and there is a difference!
I don't recommend his books. IMHO
