New Christmas pickup - double struck and a very dramatic 'rotated in collar'. (NGC G6).

It is a great Christmas pickup! :)

Nice double struck. The Indian head rotation is showing quite clearly. Thanks for sharing, and Happy Holidays!

And to think, that was in circulation long enough to become really worn. Cool coin.

It is, indeed, a cool coin. But in the 1800s, and even early 1900s, there were relatively few collectors to pull it out of circulation. And I suspect most of those who were collectors would have been more interested in collecting "perfect" coins and would have spent this "defective" one.

And it speaks to the spending power of them back them. You actually could buy something for one of these 130 years ago.

Plus, I personally like the honest wear these circulated errors got.

Very true. Only relatively rich people could afford to collect coins. Most people were happy just to have a few to spend. I, too, find a little honest wear fraught with the history of what people might have scraped a few together and spent them. Not that I wouldn't accept an MS68 Indian, but I would know it had very little history and had been "locked up" all its life.

Merry Christmas! That’s the first two headed IHC I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe the wear. If I received that in circulation I would have noticed it right away. Congratulations!

Just looked it up - a cent would have bought a loaf of bread back in the day. I would have noticed it right away too, but my family would have noticed not having bread for the week. ;)

Also, this is a great example to see just how much of the first strike is obliterated out by the second strike. You don't see that with fake "double struck" garage-made squished coins.

It looks it was struck more than twice. Possibly 4 times.

That's a great coin, I love being able to see errors that are as plain as day without a 10x loupe.
