Submitters, am I the only one that feels used?

I've submitted several coins to PCGS recently and I couldn't happier. They charged when the coins were shipped. I used ICG for my entire Morgan collection - couldn't be happier. I just sent my Silver Eagle Designer Set to NGC; which they received today. We'll see what happens. Silver Eagles, and other Mint releases (ie 2021 Morgans), I think, bog everything down. PCGS/NGC must receive 10's of thousands of coins (prob more) whenever there is a new release. Maybe they should have a separate team for regular submissions and one for mint releases. But...who am I to suggest that to them.

I stopped sending in for grading because it takes WAY too long and the mailman just tosses the package in the mailbox now and leaves (not grading companys fault but just another reason NOT to submit for grading)

My eyes, my appeal, my choice, my money. I'm the first and best grader I know. Cost, pride of ownership! There are a few exceptions, one being paddyman98, you can add the others...

When I see that happening I always think of "robbing Peter to pay Paul" - and usually those businesses that did that went out of business.

When I was a newbee, I sent a coin in to TPG for grading. It took 4 months before I got it back. I didn't think it deserved a call because I found it was standard practice to charge when they get my coin. I wasn't worried about keeping money available in my VISA. I just didn't like the practice. I only buy graded coins or coins from the Mint. They aren't worth my time. I don't sell coins, so it doesn't matter to me if they are graded or not.

that is why i buy already graded coins to avoid these problems

see i don't play the grading game and with graded coins one avoids many issues that occur with coins sent to be graded

The wait times are unbelievable. I was having awful wait times of up to 2+ months with PCGS. I get far better service at NGC, as I have a friend who works there, but lately, even NGC has been a crawl.

Same here. Both times I submitted to PCGS had problems.

I’ve become completely convinced the top 2 TPG’s hold the individual collector in active disdain and have no interest in doing anything to improve the product. Absolutely none!

I think they do. May be why they had you write M & P on the outside of the box to expedite the grading of the new Morgans. I sent two separate orders in one box. One was all Morgans the other was Morgans and ASEs. The "Morgans only" order was quickly graded and was received back by Thanksgiving. The other box that was with that one had ASEs with it and was delayed another month plus. They said it was due to a label shortage.

The problem is if you have new product you want graded or a nice coin in a worn old, scratched, non-edge view slab that you can't reasonably photograph. A lot of the old slabs have nice coins in them but the slabs are getting some miles on them and they don't show well at all. It'll be interesting as all these CAC stickered slabs age. Eventually somebody's going to have to be willing to lose the CAC sticker for a new slab to actually enjoy the coin again.

I have a re-holder order in that's been scheduled for grading for going on 20 business days. Turn around time was supposed to be 10. They just need to be cracked out and put in new slabs. Not even graded. It's not getting done.

It definitely would just drive business elsewhere. PSA was only able to get away with stopping lower tier submissions because they essentially had a monopoly on cards. They really didnt have a choice either when turnaround times were running 6 months or longer.

The best a TPG could possibly get away with would be to stop accepting economy submissions.

Edit: I just saw world economy is at 119 days which is basically a year so with their current turn around times like 78 days for US modern they're literally unusable so maybe they should just start shutting down tiers at this point. World express being 55 days is boarderline unethical to even allow that to be charged to take several months.

You have to be crazy to submit to them at this point knowing you're looking at those times and have other options

They're well aware of the displeasure in turnaround times, especially NGC whose currently taking about two month just to open your package (no not a typo). They added something on their page that orders cannot be canceled once they get the package which leads me to believe many people have been trying to cancel orders being sick of waiting

As far as payments NGC/ANACS isnt going to change that policy unless they're forced too from losing business or someone finds some obscure law they can sue them under to force them to change it. Theres significant advantages and financial gain to getting the money months in advance that they aren't going to give up just because of displeased forum posts

If the cert number stays the same, CAC will resticker it automatically for a nominal fee (used to be $3-not sure if that changed). The downside is that you need to have CAC membership (or find someone to send it for you) and wait the extra time associated with that process.

The modern guys arent the same guys grading the classic orders. The problem is you can have all the grading teams you want and grade every coin in a single day, but you still only have so many slabbing machines and if you're having trouble getting slabs/cores it wouldnt make any difference.

yes my idea isn't perfect but it does cut out much of the issues many people who submit coins are going though

and since i buy from a small company i have no bidders to deal with just plain, simple, pick your own price range and payment method and such makes things easy and simple to deal with

yes they do add on a S&H charge but when they ship it gets to you they give you tracking numbers and customer service is easy to deal with

i find that dealing with a small coin company is much easier then dealing with all the issues with E-bay and such at least IMHO

And the nice thing about pcgs, my friend had an economy submission in for 3 months stuck at grading. He finally called them and they told him anytime it goes over the time stated on the website to call them and they will get it moving along. He had his submission back in a week.

It is an issue but dont get me wrong, it's unacceptable for the times being posted and borderline unethical if not criminal to be charging people the second its processed with things like 119 days for World Economy as the estimate or 55 days for World Express at the time of this posting while taking two months to open the package. Keep in mind the estimates are business days, weekends/holidays and even coin show days do not count in the estimates. This is especially true when they are the most expensive TPG in most categories some of them significantly. Their tier limits are lower than PCGS for several with higher prices and they adjusted their modern tier to be the same dates now

    https://www.ngccoin.com/submit/services-fees/ngc/

    https://www.pcgs.com/servicesandfees

They will both likely have price increases on the new year too.

I wouldn't use them for anything, but on a happier note Merry Christmas to everyone and their families
