Been searching through a small collection of Pennys this last week and came across this one. Looks like a host of issues from circulation and possible some from the mint?

I’d like some opinions and maybe a few tips to clue me in better on markers to differentiate PMD and actual errors. I’m trying to hone in being able to determine lamination issues from grease strikes and so on.
You have all been very helpful and straight up on your reply’s and I appreciate it. I love to learn

Looks like some one had a good time with a miniature chisel

Sorry, but it's damage. You can see raised areas of displaced metal on both sides which occurs when the coin takes a hit. There is an off chance that the U on the rev is a filled die, but I think it's also part of the damage. Probably scraped off.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking for sure. Plus with the years of circulation and Environmental damages hiding the strikes pretty good i just was curious.

On the reverse I was just a little interested since it seems that spot on the U and then the bottom of the E and C and even the top of the N was fairly clean wasn’t sure if that could have been damage or possible greaser ?

just a fun cent to look at

I love his hair. Reminds me of Bart Simpson hair.

maybe someone was trying to chisel off letters and lost motivation
