Sorry for taking so long to post. The Ten-Commandments silver art bars appears to be a Silvertowne Mint silver art bar. That reverse is common on all Silvertowne mint art bars based on the ones that I see. Silvertowne is a mint based in Indiana they have have been around for several decades. I do not see any problems with the Ten-Commandments silver bar. The second ebay auction on the Walking Eagle is also familiar with me but they are good because they also make a 1-oz Buffalo silver art bar. I am not sure who makes the 1-oz Walking Eagle silver art bar but I have seen those at various places. The ebay seller for the Ten-Commandments silver art bar looks legit to me because of the high feedback (3454 with 100% rating) and the other ebay seller look fine to me with the high feedback score (10,000+ with a 99.8% rating). I hope this helps. If you are interested in them, then I would go for it. I do not see any red flags on either auction. Sorry for taking so long to respond to your post.
These 3 websites might help: http://koinpro.tripod.com/ExonumiaList.htm http://collectex.com/store/All_Bars_And_Rounds.html http://www.rivercitycoins.com/silverartbars/silverartbar.html I do not buy anything on these websites but I just use these websites to do some research on certain '70's art bars that I might like. These websites have helped me in researching '70's art bars since I do not have the 5th edition of Archie Kidd's silver art bar price guide.
those are helpful, lots of great pictures too. thanks! cant wait to start building my collection. ill post my finds!
I came across your thread by a google search of the America The Beautiful Set. I have had this entire set since I was very young, given to me by my grandfather. I was curious as to what its value might be. I have the orginal turn table case it came with as well as cards that describe each ingots picture. I believe all the ingots to be in mint condition, once I placed them in there with gloves on they were never touched. Can anyone help me out and give me a general idea of how much it may be worth? Sorry, after posting this I realized there is a "what it's worth" thread...
The bars are mentioned in the silver art bar guide (HAM-478 to HAM-527 minted in 1974 and 1975) at spot silver price + $17.50 each, but you'll find them for sale on ebay around $20. When you speak of the entire collection with matching serial numbers in original casing, than you have to think of the collector's value, and will be higher than the above mentioned prices. I can't give you an exact value for them, but my personal estimation is around $1500 - $1750 (if in excelent condition as you described them)
Hello all, i have a new link for all Art-Bar-Collector have nice time, Mat from old Germany http://www.axxa.de/
Welcome, Axxa! It's nice to see you and Orpheus over here. I've been trying for months to sign up on GoldIsMoney but they simply won't let me sign up. Anyway, I was doing a google search for some bars and this site came up and then I realized I've been a member here for almost a decade! So it's great to see you guys (and others) over here discussing silver art bars, since I can't seem to do it on GIM. Victor, as a precautionary measure, I always liberate all my silver from whatever original packaging they're in because in many cases, the foil/packaging contains PVC, which is a big no-no. Then I give each bar a good rinse in acetone to remove any contaminants, especially poisonous PVC residue, then put the art bars that fit (standard sizes) into Airtites. The ones that don't fit I put into Saflips (made of harmless Mylar). For bigger bars, I put them into food-quality Zip-Loc bags. I hate the scourge of PVC, which has ruined many of my valuable coins, and many, many holders in use over the past 30 years contain that disgusting poison. I have a question for Orpheus or Axxa or whoever might know. I bought a Hamilton Mint American Wildlife collection, in its original box with original mylar-based holders for each of the 50 bars, and they all have simply gorgeous green/blue/turquoise peripheral toning. On the edge of each is stamped the fineness (.999) and some other symbols, and a serial number (0817 in my case). I think I saw on Axxa's website that this series had a mintage of 250, which, in light of my serial number of 817, doesn't make sense. Can anyone clarify the mintage of this series?
i have one that i bought a long time ago out of a box of bullion junk. i was thinking about putting it in a airtite but it looks pretty good in the original cardboard.
^^^^^ I am thinking that this Hamilton Mint silver art bar is from the "America the Beautiful" series. The "America the Beautiful" series consist of 50 silver art bars that were minted from 1974 and 1975. That is the first time that I have seen a Hamilton Mint bar in the original packaging.
You are right 1970 Silver Art, it is from the 'America the Beautiful' series. It's HAM-492 'American Eagle' minted in 1974 with a mintage of 10.000 pieces.
