Yes definitely! Definitely! Some photos you can see everything really well, others not so much. When I look through a eye loop with mega magnification you see everything exactly how you see it on a genuine one!
I remember sitting in the Four Seasons in Houston paying $65 a glass for an 18yo Highland single malt. I don't even want to know what a glass of that would cost...
@paddyman98 Could you help me out please. I think this is the 70s DDO especially after matching up every single die marker. You can't see them all that great in the photos but would you agree that it's definitely a doubled die based on the date alone?
@shilines I'm sitting here staring at your 1970-S for quite some time now. I want very badly to say I see doubling in LIBERTY and IGWT. With all sincerity I do. For the life of me I can't see any doubling on your coin whatsoever. Honestly, if all the markers are present as you say, if I can't visually see doubling on the coin in question, why would it be a keeper as a 1970-S DDO? If every time you show the coin you have to go into a whole speech about how the markers tell you it's a 70S doubled die, is the coin truly a representative sampling of that variety? Best of luck in your search. I hope you find the holy grail.
Wait a minute come back here. Your not getting away that easy. It's just about even as far as those who say yes there is definitely doubling and those like yourself who says not.Now I have looked at this coin under magnification along with a friend and witnessed seeing not one but all the die markers exactly . On Wexlers website it shows pictures of where exactly the markers are and they all match my coin. This one is not suppose to be like the 69s or the 55 or perhaps the 72 it's not as bold. I ask you to look at all the photos again and reevaluate. If you still come to that conclusion I have no choice but to respect your opinion regardless of it being contrary to mine! I appreciate you though thank you.
lol, Don't worry, I'm not high tailing it out of here just yet. You've still got me I totally understand the die markers matching precisely. What I'm saying is this. The coin is typically labeled as a 1970-S Lincoln Memorial Cent DDO. Meaning it's a doubled die that should be plainly visible to the person holding the coin. If you can't visually see the doubling in LIBERTY and IGWT or to a lesser extent the date, and the only way to attribute the coin as a 1970-S DDO is through the die markers, that makes for a very underwhelming example of the coins attribution. When I hear the term doubled die, I want to look at the coin and say wow! Unfortunately I can't say that about your coin. The wow factor is just not there, IMO. Others are obviously disagreeing with me. That's ok too. If I were looking to purchase a 70-S DDO I can't say I'd entertain your specimen. There are too many out there that have the wow factor where it's blatantly obvious what the error is. None of this takes away from the fact that I'm rooting for you to find that elusive error you seek. I know you're going to come back here and drop the wow factor in our laps.
Reading your response again about the wow factor, I get it. Someone who is looking to purchase a doubled die that will give them that instant wow factor probably if they knew and understood the key dates and the class type of doubled dies wouldn't particularly seek this coin anyway. Why? Because they would know that some genuine doubled dies such as the 1970S DDO doesn't have the type of doubling that would give them the type of wow factor their looking for. They would know to go hunt for the 1955DDO or 1972DDO or 1958 DDO which would. Regardless if it's not the most stunning example of a doubled die can't make it less of a doubled die. My only concern is can this coin be genuinely labeled as a DD. I can't change the fact that I am a African American women. There are other African American women who may have a lighter or darker skin tone, fuller lips, coarser hair, taller, shorter which may make them stand out more in a crowd then I do. But it doesn't change the fact that I'm still African American! Right
You know, for $35 you can buy a handheld microscope that can zoom in closer with better detail. Here's an example! Just food for thought!
You know, ANACS will opine on it, if you ask them. If it’s what you say it is, it has to be attributed, anyway, at some stage, because nobody can hardly see it. Why don’t you just do that?
Gosh, wouldn't just submitting it...maybe with a letter making your case...clear this up and confirm or not if the genuine article...? Even with phone calls and/or photos and "maybes," nothing is set in stone until it's actually/ultimately set and straight-graded/attributed in a respected TPG slab. You could try the top two or three of the BIG boys if necessary and if you think it's worth it to persevere. It's never going to be any "holy grail" without it. Then again, would it straight grade or not because of other factors...seems to have several questionable dings/marks...?
