Darker but a well centered and detailed coin from the Siscia Mint AD 334-335. Obv. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C; Laureate, draped, cuirassed bust right. Rev. GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS; Two soldiers standing, spear in outer hand, two standards between them//•ESIS• In looking at this coin I can’t help but wonder if Constantine was smiling for the camera. That’s quite a smirk on him. This coin honors the army.
Very nice coin. I have one very similar that I cleaned from a lot of uncleaned. Not near as nice as this one. Mine is mint marked dot delta SIS dot
This one is not as clear as I would prefer but it is the Siscia .ESIS* one standard of Constantine II as Augustus. RIC vol. VIII, 79, page 355 Constantine II lived only a short time after becoming Augustus. I consider any Augustus coin of his worth having and the ones with legend CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG especially so. How do you tell them from coins of his father? I look them up in RIC.
here he is with a horse Constantine II A.D. 321 18mm 2.8g CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C; bust r., laur., dr., cuir., spear across r. shoulder, holding horse by bridle with l. hand. BEATA TRA-NQVILLITAS; globe set on altar inscribed VOT/IS/XX; above, three stars. In ex. PTR Cf. RIC VII Trier 314 RMBT 64
Constantine II turned 5 in AD 321. Must be a hobby-horse. Actually, an interesting type from the perspective of imperial propaganda!
