Hi all, SO this is one of my recent purchases, i got it from teletrade and the slab its self has a large chip in it and the seal is cracked so i was going to send it to get re holdered but i think i could get a star. opinions? -Russ
Great looking coin, especially the obverse. Probably won't get a star though as it did not get one from NGC the last time. Congrats on the purchase. TC
I'm truly at a loss in judging tarnished silver. The things silver collectors seek in the name of toning make me wince. Now I'm absolutely sure that the same would be said of what I look for in copper. With this in mind, I would look to the spot under the lowest star on the left as a reason it wouldn't receive a star.
It could get a star. The graders just have to agree, and it depends who's working that day. If you're going to get it reholdered anyway, it's worth a shot.
The owner of this coin gets a gold star. Decisions, decisions, always decisions. I think it only costs something like $5 to have it re-holdered at NGC. If you crack it out or ask for a re-grade at NGC, it will cost you much more & they will probably give it another MS63 IMO. If you submit it to PCGS (and they don't recognize the coin) maybe it would go into a 64 holder because of the incredible "grandma factor". The photo shows the reverse is really alive & easy on the eyes. I assume from the photo that the obverse has life & is not really dark. A coin that awesome simply cannot go into a 62 holder could it? Very best regards, collect89
NGC can put a star after the grade on a coin that is exceptional for the grade. For example, a Proof 65 coin that has a deep cameo on the obverse but no cameo on the reverse could not get any kind of a cameo designation. However, the coin might get a PF65* grade on the holder.
