    Hi all!

I bought a small lot of coins in eBay, and it arrived today. The highlight was this Follis of Constantine I, with ADVENTVS AVG reverse, that commemorates his arrival in London.

However, I can't find any ADVENTVS coins with the bust facing left, laureate, cuirassed and holding spear and shield. The most similar ones I can find have busts helmeted.

Does anyone have any ideas on an attribution, or is it unpublished?

The other coin that came in the lot was this rather nice tetradrachm of Carus.

    Thanks!

My quick acsearch didn't come up with any results with your bust. There were a couple of left-facing busts but one was helmeted and the other was him holding a staff.

These London "star right" pre-war types of Constantine come in a dizzying variety of bust types and legend variations. This is bust type "Y" and is known for this type, but only in combination with the shorter legend 1g "CONSTANTINVS AVG", as opposed to yours which has legend 1e "CONSTANTINVS P AVG". Your Y+1e combination is not listed in RIC; the closest match is RIC 141 which is Y+1g, with this specimen from Oxford shown on RIC VI plate 1.

It's not in RIC, but is in Cloke & Toone's "The London Mint of Constantius and Constantine" #7.01.010. Besides the example shown from the BM, they cite two additional examples sold on eBay
