Cheers my coin friends! I had to buy another two Sestertii last week to be able to present a Top 10 this year, so this is in fact the only ten coins I acquired in the past 12 months. Here they are in chronological order: 1) Nero Decursio Sestertius: 2) Julia Titi (daughter of Titus) Dupondius: 3) Manlia Scantilla (wife of Didius Julianus) Sestertius: 4) Didia Clara (daughter of Didius Julianus) Sestertius: 5) Caracalla (as Caesar under Septimius Severus) Sestertius: 6) Julia Domna (unter Caracalla) Sestertius: 7) Julia Paula (1st wife of Elagabalus) Sestertius: 8) Volusian Juno Temple Sestertius: 9) Gallienus Sestertius 10) Maxentius Dioscuri and She-Wolf Follis: Please let me know your favourites and have safe and happy holidays!
Congrats on your pickups, @Julius Germanicus. I like the Nero and Julia Domna sestertius. Your Maxentius Dioscuri Follis has a very nice reverse design. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely selection of big Bronzes! @Julius Germanicus... Lovely Nero portrait and the harder to come by ladies, Julia Titi and Manlia Scantilla are really nice examples. Congrats on a "Big Bronze" 12 months, very impressive.
Gallienus, Manlia Scantilla and Julia Titi. All the remaining others are scarce and attractive. Who doesn't like to acquire a Sestertius of Nero and Gallienus? I'd say: A very wise choice of Top 10. Few coins are better than too many ! Best wishes 2022
What a great selection. I like your less common daughters and wives. I think my favorite overall is the Maxentius with the Dioscuri and She-wolf.
A very nice 2021 lineup! My favorites, for portraits are: 3) Manlia Scantilla; 5) Caracalla; and 8) Volusian.
Great coins! My favorites: # 1- awesome Nero portrait as well as #8 - Volusian and #10 Maxentius that has all the details. Congrats on your 2021 selection. All the Best in 2022
Beautifull! The Volusian and the nicer Caracalla are my picks. Funny how innocent he looked then/ compared to what he became and looked like when Emperor. Frohes Weihnachten! John
Wonderful year!!! Your Manlia Scantilla and Didia Clara take 1&2 for me. But I can see why that majestic Nero took the top spot. Thanks for sharing
Thank you all for your comments and votes! Makes me realize that the Didia Clara needs to be upgraded to fit my standards and that it was OK to exclude Nero from my one-per-ruler rule (complementing right facing portrait Sestertiii with left facing counterparts could be a way to continue collecting once I have everybody complete). Same goes for Caracalla - but finding a Geta as Caesar Sestertius will give me a hard time! No wonder, as Caracalla was only eight years old when this coin (a prototype for the child Caesars of the Soldier Emperors to follow) was struck. I am stunned myself whenever I take the tray out of the bank safe. 2 Kilos of roman brass is indeed heavy for a one-coin-per-ruler collection (80 silver coins would amount to just a fraction of that.
A lot of tough-to-find coins, @Julius Germanicus! Congrats on the acquisitions . My faves are the Julia Tit, Manlia Scantilla, Didia Clara, and Caracalla caesar.
