This is a fifty cent bill from the Confederate forces of the Civil War. It was issued in 1864 and it was the last bill the Confederacy produced. The printer was Keatrige & Ball in Columbia, S.C. The back is totally blank to save on printing costs.

it was near the end of the war and the south was broke. It’s fifty dollars and half the size of a normal bill. The Fifty is on the left and Dollars is on the right. Only 72 CSA (Confederate States of America) notes were issued during the war times.

You can probably still edit that first line of your post. ;)

I helped to renovate that old Keating & Ball building. I had just started my business and my office was in its own historic building less than a mile from that place. It was a hundred year eyesore downtown but nobody wanted to tear it down because it was so historic. So in the early 2000’s they decided to renovate the place into a grocery store. I stayed on site during the excavation just hoping some old engraving plates would come out of the ground. They didn’t. Just some old whiskey bottles and the like. But I am glad the city chose to keep the old building in place.

Meh. You posted a nice image of a great note, with interesting information. You're still way ahead on this one.

I guess by 1864 they knew their paper was worthless, so why bother making more?

This note was from the February issued notes of 1864 but with all the other notes issued over the years, some with low mintages and others with high mintages, the south could no longer get its citizens to buy them.
