Quite true about the wages, nowadays, but back when I started (1970) they had something known as the "student sort". We used to unload trucks between the hours of 5 and 8 PM. If memory serves, the hourly rate was $3. That was a lot better than the $1.50 minimum wage most folks were paying at the time. That and the fact that if you finished up early, you didn't have to hang around. You could split and were still guaranteed the three hour pay. Nice perk for a wild and crazy college guy at the time....:smile
Just ordered 10 sets of presidential $1 proofs. No problems at all. Getting them, is another story. I will keep three sets for the kids and sell the other 7 once all the coins have been released. Talk to me in about 6 years. :computer:
I hear you. It was fine work for me at the time. It wasn't very stimulating but it was nice having a Union to support you and only working 4 hour mandated shift, fits the school schedule for folks too. Workers have lost a lot of job support, perks and pay over time it seems. BTW, I still don't have my 2010 halves...
Shoot, what the heck gives? You should have definately had 'em by now. Is the shippment still stuck in Jersey?
It was sent from the Indiana fulfillment center via FedEx SmartPost which as a 2-8 day transit time with final delivery made by USPS. The FedEx tracking page says it departed Edison, NJ on 2/6... At this point in time it sure looks like the USPS will be utilizing the full 8 days to travel less than 30 miles with my parcel.
...i'm wondering when and if the mint will change the packaging on the proof sets so the edge can actually be seen? better yet when will they scrap the edge lettering all together!?
Well I bought 42 sets.....I have to be able to get at least 1 PF70 Set out of that right!! Last year I bought 40 sets and ened up pulling out 67 coins that I thought would grade 70 and 58 of them came back 70.
schatzy you beat my record! I thought I was the only one buying 30 or more of these sets for prior years. I was considering buying fewer this year seeing how the values don't seem to be holding up too well.
Holy crud! That's a lot of sets! But the return seems pretty decent. How did the other 9 grade, if at all? Or were they all above 68?
HSN is already hawking the 2010 President set graded in PR70 at least TWO days before the offical mint release. These were in hand and not pre-sales. They made a big deal out of mentioning that they got them before the mint sold them to the public. Makes their "No More Satin Proofs" statements seem more and more valid. They were also hawking the 2010 Cents in MS67, but they were pre-sales.
The other 9 were graded PF69UC, I have never recieved a PF68UC from NGC, I can tell the difference between 68 and 69 so I never send any of the 68's.
My order is showing "In stock and reserved". 2010 PRES $1 COIN PROOF SET 10 $15.95 $159.50 In stock and reserved
This is That really p*sses me off!!!!!! I know it may be futile, but I am going to contact my Federal Congressman (Chris Smith, 4th District, NJ) and let him know how p*ssed I am about this. There is no reasonable, rational, sane reason that a third party vendor gets product from the U.S. Mint before the general public. If any of you have details about the date, time, program name and hosts who put out that info, I would appreciate you posting it here, or.... drop me a pm. I only want the info, your name, screen name and source will not be used.
Did you buy that many in 2007 and if so, how many came back with a '70 designation? Seems a lot of folks here complained about the quality of the '07 proofs.
It has taken me over 2 years to develop the eye of spotting the 70's. The way I submit coins to NGC has also changed. If I remeber right I bought 30 sets of the 2007 coins and submitted them all to NGC and I think I ended up with 23 70's. I keep building my little coin business and hope I can buy even more next year.
Well if they can get the coins before the public, they might actually have inside information but the future of the satin finish mint sets.
