  1. Collecting Nut

    Collecting Nut Borderline Hoarder

Late 2nd to 1st Centuries BC
Obv. Laureate head of Zeus, right.
Rev. Zeus Larasius, zebu standing left, head turned facing.
    Reference: SNG Cop 666
    Extremely rare.

It’s nice looking in hand and with good details. On the dark side so difficult to capture with my cell phone (all I have). A Zebu is a type of a cow, the hump behind the head is the main feature of this kind of cattle.

    Nice coin, @Collecting Nut !

I have a similar one, perhaps with a different inscription. Mine was difficult to attribute!

    tralles-both.jpg
    Lydia, Tralles, 250-1 BC, AE15, 2.93g
    Obv: Zeus head right
Rev: [ΔΙ]ΟΣ ΛΑΡΑΣΙΟΥ ΚΑΙ ΔΙΟΣ Ε[ΥΜΕΝΟΥ]; Zebu Bull left
    Ref: BMC Lydia p. 339, #87

The inscription means "Zeus Larasios and Zeus Eumenes". "Zeus at Tralles was called Larasios from a sanctuary at the neighbouring village of Larasa. Zeus ‘Eumenes’ or ‘The Kindly’ may have had a separate sanctuary." --Barclay Head

I think of Zeus at Tralles as "A god so nice, we worship him twice!"
