Hi all! I recently bought a small lot of coins, and they arrived today! Included was this pair of Denarii; one of Vespasian, and the other of Sabina However, I'm wondering if they're genuine or not. The Sabina is concerning me most, although it may just be overcleaned. The other coin on the lot (which is the coin I bough the lot for) was this better than average antoninianus of Allectus, with the whole of the obverse on the flan (the coin is much nicer in hand than my crummy photos). I'm pretty confident this one is genuine. Any thoughts on the Denarii? The Vespasian weighs 3.38g and is 19mm in diameter, while the Sabina weighs 2.39g and is 18mm in diameter. Thanks!
All three look ok, but the Sabina is a dog as far as the least unattractive of the three. And yes, it's probably gone through a very harsh cleaning, and that's why it is low weight. If you're unhappy with it, just do a giveaway or something to someone who may enjoy it.
The Vespasian looks okay from the image, but I too have my doubts about the Sabina. Mat could be correct though. Harsh cleaning possibly. I would like to see better images before I could say anything about authenticity, and even then, images can be deceiving.
