I was definitely thinking details, myself. However, it was graded AU-50 The True View looks a lot better than Great Coins’ pictures. Not mine. It was auctioned tonight.
Is that the grade? Straight AU-50? I have to agree with the details consensus. All of those small scratches seem suspicious. And the color seemed to be very white. VF/AU details.
I view True View photos as “glamour shots.” It seems like they make coins look better than they are in person. Still the True View shows “original” gray toning, which does not show at all in the opening photo. The opening photo seems to show this coin in its worst light while the True View makes it look to be at least market acceptable.
Better photography on the part of the submitter would have helped in the assessment. Based on the True View photo I would have graded the coin at XF-45-AU-50. I really don't care for the strike of this coin.
From the first photos I would have never guessed a strait grade. I would still even after seeing the TV's pass on the coin.
Not enough time...grade has been revealed, but will say this: better it received a straight grade than to be relegated to the "details" heap. Definitely appears (to me, others) in orig photos to be "cleaned"...should be net graded something of EF40-AU50 or so and simply noted "appears cleaned"...and let the market have the final say. A nice/decent coin.
I think it goes without saying that when we try to assess surface conditions from photos, we rely to a huge extent on the quality of the images, direction of lighting, etc. That was a details coin from the photos in the o.p.; from the trueviews, m.a. at best.
