I am not sure why this is, but I was sorting through my change and found a 1980 Missouri Quarter, however the tails side is a little different that a normal quarter. The tails side has what looks like a black and white sticker of the Lewis and Clark adventure with the Arch in the background. I am not sure why the quarter has this on the tails side, but I was wondering if anyone had any information on this puzzling quarter. Thanks so much!
If it's a sticker, it's surely post-mint. Companies will put stickers on coins and bills, and market them as collector's items - Santa on a 1-dollar bill, Obama-themed half-dollars, etc. These occasionally reach circulation, since theyre worth nothing more than face, except to the person who happens to want an Obama-themed half-dollar that's not a real mint product. The designer Daniel Carr was upset with the mint rendering of his design, and produced stickers with the 'original' design and placed them on MO state quarters. Think of your find as a protest coin. The mint changed their policy after the MO quarter. Check coin world for details the story had wide coverage.
