National Park Quarters

Yep, I will be collecting them. P and D, and the Silver Proof set. I got my first Proof set in 2009, I plan to continue to get the proof set now for as long as I live. I went with the silver because I like that the coins are one color on the edge.

I collect P and D of everything if I can, I will probably have Ps mostly as I don't see Denver mint issues here in NY too often. I plan to collect them out of circulation, unless they are impossible to find, then we order them.

I don't plan to get the "Hockey Pucks"...but I might for Saratoga as it's a place I've been many many times.

Exactly how and where does one buy US coinage for less than face value?

 

I will collect the AtBQ silver proof on subscription from the US Mint.
I am not fully committed to the "hockey pucks" for obvious economic reasons: 5 Oz silver at spot plus mint markup and distributor premium and IMHO, we could be looking at $135.00/issue x. 5 = $675/year x. 11 = $7,425 ! WoW :hammer:

The interesting thing about the state, now the National Park quarter program is that by 2020, finding an old style eagle reverse will be an event.

 

I hope you're right, but I have a feeling ordering limits may apply, and if so, then upwards of $250 per, just like Royal Canadian Mints 5 ounce coins.

I am going to collect them but i am not going to get proofs. I will probably just get them looking through my change and put them in a folder like i did the state quarters.

 

i did not collect the states ones, and i will not do the parks ones. my washington quarter collection ends with the 1998 quarters.

 

It can happen. At the shop we used to buy proof and mint sets at 10% back of bid. The bid on the 71, and 72 mint sets were low enough that we wound up buying them for less than face value. And yes we did buy sets of them.

 

While agreeing TR would be a better choice, the National Park Service came into existence under Woodrow Wilson. The first National Park was under Ulysses Grant.

 

I'll probably just get an album and get them from pocket change. Either that or get the annual silver proof sets.

 

I will get an album and collect them from pocket change like i did with the state quarter series. I did enjoy collecting the state quarters this way so I am sure i will enjoy this series also. I suppose if i keep buying yearly proof sets ill get them there also.

 

Instead of supporting the Mint with constant money making programs and designs which can be produced on a PC in minutes let's boycott this junk and buy REAL coins. Classic commemoratives,Peace dollars,Franklins etc. Put your money to good use and buy stuff that has a chance to appreciate in value in your lifetime. Yea I am sure the ANA would love that you recruit for them by bashing people that don't collect "real" coins according to you. Get off you high horse dude and remeber this is a CASUAL hobby for some people.

 

Why would anyone sell below face. If it gets that low, crack them open and spend them.......I don't get it.

 

With regard to collecting these, I have to. I have an example of every Washington quarter from 1932 to the present (thanks to a couple of trades lately to get my Territory P mint coins). I can't stop now. I was looking forward to getting 2 per year, but that is not going to happen for quite a while.

I will get them from banks and change and put them in a new Dansco...

 

Yeah, I want to collect 87 examples of the same coin (except the date/mint mark), rather than 56 different reverses! Tell me the silver proofs and satins (if they continue) don't have potential.

 

Because neither the customer nor us stopped to work it out at the time. We'd get someone in with a bunch of mint/proof sets, we would tell them we pay 10% back of bid. They'd say OK and we'd would total up the number of each date set times bid, add up the amounts and then pay 90% of the total. It wouldn't be till later that we would notice that due to the current bid prices we had actually paid less than face for some sets.

Sometimes when I was working up the deal I would notice that a set would be below face. When that happened I would point it out to the customer and give them the option of keeping them. Sometimes they did, sometimes they would just decide to go ahead and sell the whole deal.
