And Post #391 was by... @Joshua Lemons!

Congratulations, @Joshua Lemons! Please provide @Penny Luster with your shipping address.

Don’t forget to post here later, after you've received your goodies, so we'll know. I will update the summary in the intro post accordingly when that information is added.

Well, folks, we've only just reached the halfway point of the cointest, and the lots keep getting one coin bigger every time. I think it has been lots of fun so far. :)

And now, for something a little different...

    Day07a (1).jpg

    Day07b (1).jpg

    (7) assorted British & Canadian coins (1862-1966), including silver.

"Seven Crowned Heads" is how @Penny Luster referred to this lot. Which these monarchs were, though they're not wearing crowns on these particular coins.

    The coins are:

Canada: nickel 5 cents of George VI, 1940 (KM-33)
Canada: nickel 5 cents of George VI, 1947, Maple Leaf variety (KM-39a)
Canada: silver 10 cents of George VI, 1939 (KM-34)
Canada: silver 10 cents of Elizabeth II, 1966 (KM-61)
Great Britain: bronze large penny of Victoria, 1862 (KM-749)
Great Britain: silver 6 pence of George V, 1926 (KM-815a)
Great Britain: silver 6 pence of George V, 1934 (KM-832)

To enter this round of the contest:

    1.
    Merely say "I want those!".

    2. Claire would like you to also post something else "amusing and cheerful", of your choice. In her words:
    3. If you should happen to win, please post to this thread when you have received the prize, so that we will all know you got it.

There should be a random drawing for this prize within a day or two of this post, depending on @lordmarcovan's schedule. Until such time as the round has closed and the winner of the drawing is announced, you may post an entry.

Only one entry per round per member, please, and each member may only win one prize lot during the course of the contest. You may enter on someone else's behalf in any of the rounds if you wish (even if you've already won something).

See the intro post for full information.

I'd like those to go to @RoseWesche, should i win. Looks like something she may enjoy.
I found Canadian silver this week, woo-hoo! and is she ever purdy. I know she's not holiday related, but i bet you can easily imagine a tastefully lit wreath around that reindeer's neck ;).

I want those for FurryFrog03. That is to say, @furryfrog02’s tadpole.

My medieval Scottish Penny of Alexander III (circa 1280-1286), is on its way back from PCGS now. I just got the good news that it earned an XF45 grade.

I’m of Scots-Irish descent, and yet this is the first Scottish coin I’ve owned in 45 years of collecting. They’re slightly scarce, given that independent Scottish coinage pretty much ceased after the Acts of Union that created the modern state of Great Britain in 1707.

Sort of. Technically a caribou, though the distinction between “caribou” and “reindeer” eludes me, without my wandering over to Wikipedia.

Similar beasties, at any rate, if not the same thing.

All right, boys, cut that out. ;)

That’s a good idea. Nicely done. I don’t think @Penny Luster will object to my tossing an extra ticket into the hat for @RoseWesche with this post.

Hey, aside from the gender, I resemble that remark, myself. The description certainly fits Ladymarcovan. I think she has a mug or a T-shirt or something with "Crazy Cat Lady" on it.

After adopting the first dozen cats, you earn that badge. ;)

Isn't "caribou" just reindeer in French Canadian? :hilarious::hilarious:

    Could be?

You're gonna make me go to Wikipedia now, aren't you? *sigh*

I'll start by looking up "caribou", and then I'll be unable to resist hopping from link to link from there, until three, four, six hours later, I'll find myself reading about ancient Etruscan basket weaving techniques or some obscure Peruvian battleship in the Saltpeter War.

"Wikipedia freefall", I call that. Hours melt away when I fall down some of those rabbit holes.

Edit: aha! So caribou = reindeer. Same critter. "Caribou" is just the North American name. So now I know that. Thanks again, Wikipedia.

(I now quickly close the caribou page before I start link-hopping and lose the rest of the night to Wikipedia freefall.)
