I have a question about a few rolls of dimes I recently acquired from a coin dealer out of state (one I have done business with in the past).

My question is regarding the 2007S Proof dimes. Did the mint sell dimes like this - as single or rolls? (I did not think so)

Did someone go through a bunch of sets and crack open the plastic holder to separate the coins in a proof mint set. The dimes appear to be 90% silver proof (and that is how they were advertised and priced).

Thanks, I found it kind of odd to come across these rolls.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

Someone likely broke open a ton of sets for the halves to sell as singles. They seem to be the most sought after coins from pre-1999 sets, IIRC. They then sold off the dimes and quarters in rolls.

    Thank you. That sounds logical.

They were indeed broken from sets. There are dealers looking for that PR70 and dig through sets tearing them apart in their search for riches. The 07S were sought after for the Halves mostly as Mike mentioned but also alot of dealers were looking at the quarters because of the state sets.

Do they really ROLL proof coins?

I have 6 rolls of Lincoln cent proofs, so somebody does.

You regularly see rolls of proof coins on ebay. I couldn't believe the first time I saw them. It would seem that you're gonna know 2-5 points off the grade just by putting them in the rolls.
