This Vespasian As from Lyon was slightly double struck on a large flan (29mm!) ... perfection IMHO! Coins don't have to be problem free to be keepers. Vespasian Æ As, 9.42g Lyon mint, 77-78 AD Obv: IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS VIII P P; Head of Vespasian, laureate, l.; globe at point of bust Rev: VICTORIA AVGVSTI; S C in field; Victory adv. l., with wreath and palm RIC 1242 (R). BMC -. BNC 854. Acquired from CGB.fr, November 2021. In 77-78 Lugdunum (modern Lyon) after a hiatus of several years struck a decently sized issue of bronze coinage, presumably to address a shortage in the Western provinces. This rare left facing portrait variant of the fairly common Victory advancing type was struck for the issue. Victory was a common theme on Vespasian's bronze issues and should be viewed in a generic context with no specific link to the Jewish War. Double struck or hockey puck? Post them here!
Great left facing portrait, with that blurry effect (is it my glasses ? my eyes ? ) Neither hockey puck (on the contrary) nor double struck, but Lyon Augustus, Denarius - Lyon c.12 BC AUGUSTUS DIVI F, Bare head of Augustus right IMP X, Bull butting right 3.77 gr Ref : RCV #1610, Cohen #137 Q
