Received a reply from the Royal Mint Museum regarding My 1989 GB $1 coin with 3 chins on the queen. The 1806 double head penny as suggested by a CT member is indeed the work of a victorian trickster, No biggy but a nice addition to My error collection
I would ask if 'Chris' was the one making these determinations, because I wouldn't trust someone with that signature really though, the pound is a great example of die chatter.
Good question Im wondering how a coin with Die chatter would be graded is it machine doubling/trebling or would it have a higher eye appeal ?
It is treated just as valueless machine doubling/tripling. (Interesting to hear trebling used, I haven't heard that used in a while.) You see this on older US large cents on occasion, sometimes it is very obvious
Cheers and valuless as expected back to th eye loupe for another few months Actually I was not comfortable using the phrase trebling on CT but its in the Royal Mint letter so Chris (the poor signee) is firmly responsible
Yes, it’s correct just not something I hear nearly as often in American media as in Europe. It’s cool!
