A gun to your head is not any different for getting the whereabouts of your Whitman's in there plastic bags? If I worried about my coins then I should worry about my HD TV, my surround system, my paintings, my vases, my watches, etc. I can't let some posibility of some slum bag burgular effect my home life 24/7/ For me one of the joys of coins is the ability to easily look at what I have accomplished. I am not going to trot down to the bank or in a crawl space to get my coins when I need to. Besides I am like Barney Fyfe. I have a gun and one bullet. So I am only in trouble if there are two of them. Bring it on.
Presently all in 5 safe deposit boxes. No problems that way at all. Just better to be safe than sorry.
I agree on the Pres $ Lighthouse. Sorry I bought it. I liked the look of it, but the coins have all moved and are mostly upside down. I am going to be transferring them to my preferred albums, Littleton. I have many Littleton albums and really like them. They hold the coins snug, and are very well constructed (in the USA). I also like that they are in the format of a Three-Ring Binder. This makes taking a page out for further study nice and easy, as well as allowing me to take the page out, and lay it flat on the table when inserting new acquisitions.
I use no albums I make my own and I use no albums I make my own and that gives me all the flexabilty I could ever ask for. I use 2x2's and 20 pocket pages with a label maker and 3 ring binders. I then can add or subtract and organize them any way in the world. They look as good as any album made, they are easy to see, protected and interchangable.
Sorry if this is an inappropriate question. But where is the best place to purchase Dansco albums and supplies? Based on what I've read in this thread and some older threads, Dansco albums seem to be a good all-around choice. I don't have any coin shops or hobby shops in my area and I searched online at amazon with only limited results. Where do you guys buy your albums?
Dansco hands down, I only have the one Dansco 7070 but am looking to purchase a few more in the coming year.
I like Library of Coin albums due to size and just the way they look. Nothing like nice looking circulated coins matched in an old antique album.
You sound like me, sir....everything on the shelf has to line up just so and look nice and grouped. I like basic blue Whitman folders for just your basic year-collecting....nicer stuff of course you may want to consider 2x2ing... I'm a noob, but I have no complaints with these...they're cheap and available at lots of places. Dare I say that I have a basic Whitman folder full of wheat cents?
Neither Dansco or Whitman! Use that money to buy coins.www.usmint.gov for current coins. keep them in ORIGINAL proof and Mint boxes. All other stuff should be slabbed.NGC,Anacs and PCGS. I have been a collector for 35 years and I am strongly against album collecting. Just my own thoughts. Good Luck and please join the ANA. @ www.money.org
No and Yes! I can agree as far as trying to slab my collection, but buying from the U.S. Mint is no good to me because I enjoy collecting foreign coins ranging between 1800 to 1960.
I have both Whitman and Dansco, but just like TC exclusively use Dansco now. I would like try Intercept Shield...as I've heard that these will offer way more protection for your collection. -LTB
Intercept Shield - very well constructed and just classy. They are dark green, so you gotta like that color. A bit more expensive than Dansco/Whitman but the extra $5 or so is worth it - especially if you factor in the extra cost the Dansco slip case costs (this comes with the Intercept Shields)
