Picked this up today with my tax refund money: United Kingdom, 1 pound, 1919 The size of this dragon in relation to St. George kind of makes St. George look like a bully for killing it, doesn't it? I mean, it's half the size of his horse. Hardly seems like a legendary feat. Love the details on this note though. Can clearly see the folds on St. George's cloak, the scales on the dragon, etc. Love the way the "One Pound" is superimposed over the portrait as if it were translucent. Great details on Parliament on the reverse too. I kind of prefer pro-dragon depictions of dragons on my notes as opposed to anti-dragon like this one (though to be fair what I know of the St. George and dragon legend, this dragon probably had it coming), but I still like this note and think it's a great addition to the collection.
That's a beautiful note - I'd love to see a closer view if you have a larger scan. Wouldn't mind seeing a whole write-up on your dragon theme (like, perhaps, something about the notes, a few details about the artists and engravers... ), that's really a great topic to collect by. Dave
Troodon: Back when I collected coins I had a 4 coin set of Isle of Man Gold coins, Angels I think they were called. If I am not mistaken, that smae vignette appeared on them as well. Excellent note..nice addition to the dragon collection. RickieB
