Yes indeed. It's been posted elsewhere, not surprisingly. Pretty amazing, to see all those tens of thousands of dollars of coins rattling around loose in that old tin like that.
Yeah I just realized it's been plenty covered...been offline and distracted a bit lol! So much fun to see though!!!
Yes, discussed here https://www.cointalk.com/threads/oldies-from-early-america-sell-in-auction.389707/ Grandpa kept all his coins like this too.
This is my first sighting of this tin full of coins. I'll admit my mouth dropped open as I stared. I embarrassed myself, good thing the wife didn't see. She'd think it was a bikini or something lol. WOW is all I can say.
I saw that in Coin World. Now I wonder how many coin hoards like this one are out there. I'm sure there are many.
so much for those that think any coin valued at 300.00 or more is already slabbed, and any not are suspect, like i said, anything can happen, finds can still be had
Yeah, I don't know where that notion comes from. Most of my valuable coins have never been slabbed. I would expect a lot of stuff similar to the contents of this tin that are in institutional collections have never been slabbed either - Yale and MHS come to mind - and unfortunately a ton of them have never even been photographed. The MHS NE shilling, sixpence and threepence aren't slabbed.
