Thanks for all the responses. It is the exact kind of feedback for which I was seeking.

After considering these responses, I chose to leave NO feedback on Ebay and keep the coin (It was only a few buck overpriced and not worth the considerable effort to leave my home) but I did leave the seller a message concerning my disappointment. He has not responded.

Now there does seem to be a difference of opinion about whether it is OK to leave possibly deceptive, but definitely inadequate descriptions for items. Is a return policy all that is required to receive a positive rating?

I know it's no worse than infomercials with lifetime guarantees with the product cost built into the "Handling" fee. But is this the best way to get a vibrant market for both sellers and buyers?

I may be old fashioned, but I think giving your money back is the LEAST a seller should be expected to do, not the most. I know it's not possible to please everyone, but you should at least be able to please the reasonable customers by selling what you have and not what you can make them think you have.

Anyway, keeping the coin doesn't mean the transaction was good, only that the fix wasn't worth it.

I have now received a reply from the seller who indicated he was sorry I wasn't pleased. He again offered to refund my money and indicated his appreciation for not giving him negative or neutral feedback. He also agreed to be more careful with his descriptions since he had purchased the same item with better photos several months ago on Ebay at a higher price.

This is all I really want. The promise to do better even more than the OPTION of returning the item.

Now the question is will he live up to it? I hope so.

Sometimes, that is all we want to hear is a good old appology. The seller acknowledged that he was wrong and that he would do better next time. He also still offered a full refund. What more can you ask for? I think sometimes what gets us (the buyer) so ticked off in the first place was the fact that we think we were intentially wronged, but to hear an true appology makes everything ok. I would still go ahead and leave positive feedback based on all the other aspects of the transaction. Was the shipping cost fair? Was it delivered on time? You can still leave positive feedback in response to these questions and anything else that comes to mind.

I dont think this seller was being underhanded. I just looked at some coins he has got listed right now, as well as other ones he sold, and the pics are all the same, they are lacking the detail we really require.
Besides the seller has only got 31 ebay feedbacks under his belt so he's a newbie.
Sorry bud, not to rub your nose in it, but I wouldnt have bought that coin regardless if it didn't have steel brush marks on it, and it ebay pic represented it to a 'T'.
Go get your money back, and tell him why, he's too new to try and push back.
Besides he will learn from the experiance and start zooming in a little better.

Since you are not returning the coin, I think it might be unfair to give a negative feedback. I mean, if you are unhappy you need to give the seller a chance to remedy it. We all have gotten a deal at one time or another where we thought the item was misrepresented. But I must admit, the sellers did everything necessary to rectify the problems I had. To give a poor feedback because you aren't too thrilled instead of returning it is just wrong. I had a buyer ding me for charging $3.99 shipping for an item that cost $4.75 in postage alone because my shipping price was too high ? Go figure ?

I have learned that asking questions prevents problems. Ask for additional pics, more description, etc.

So, keep it gladly or return it and give feedback accordingly and honestly. And learn from the experience.

    My opinion anyway.
