I was going to bid on that, but decided to buy an island instead. LOL

Funny, the PR66 example, finest known, also just sold on Thanksgiving to Great Collections in a three coin private deal for $13.35 million. The other two coins were an 1894-S dime PR65 also finest known, and an 1804 Class 1 dollar PR65 tied for third finest. Each was an individual record price according to the email I just got, although the individual prices aren't given. All were formerly in the collection of Bruce Morelan of Legend Numismatics.

It's the second 1804 dollar bought by GC this year.

I like the original. The remake, not so much. While remakes are often inferior, a few, like The Parent Trap were pretty good.

And of course, that's when owners started hiding them. Sometimes overseas. Which brings us full circle. How many illegal coins are being held overseas or unacknowledged in the US?

It's no different from Nazi Stolen Artwork. Those that have it are just waiting out the outrage.

I used to get a kick out of bidding early at a totally unrealistic price just to be able to say I was high bidder for a moment.

So I imaging it would have been a hoot to start the bidding at $50.

It's funny...I never saw the original but watched the remake all the time.

It's a rare time that both were very good. Brian Keith seemed the perfect fit and turned into his Family Affair connection. Maureen O'Hara and Haley Mills seemed perfect.

And Vickie in 1961 returned as her mother in the remake.

Just a glimpse of the original.
