Not that I have a beef or anything, but I noticed something last month and made we wonder about it. I won a Heritage auction for a coin and before I received the coin from Heritage, the auction result was listed on PCGS's certification page for that coin. Either PCGS has someone(s) dedicated to combing the Heritage auction results and manually inputting that data, or, there is a digital link between Heritage and PCGS for the automatic uploading of auction results for PCGS coins. That requires some serious hand-shaking between databases. Anybody know?
Only link I could find Email: PCGS@HA.com Website: https://coins.ha.com/?type=dmc-pcgs-dealer-101819 taken from this site, https://www.pcgs.com/dealers/details/1782/44
I think if someone were able to see the ownership, partnership, stock holdings, etc. between companies there would not be many surprises.
https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/ Countless sites sales get captured no one is doing every one by hand. Once its captured its easy for PCGS to display it on the cert page
PCGS has Links for Recent Auction Prices Realized, and Auction Record Price Realized, from eBay (EB); David Lawrence (DL); Great Collections (GC); Goldberg Auctions (GO); Heritage Auctions (HA); Legend Auctions (LA); Stack's-Bowers (SB) and some others that I can't remember in my travels through Coin Facts. PCGS uses these Auction Prices, as-well-as input from the CDN resources; Collectors Corner sales; the CCE Dealer Trading Network; Trade Show sales and Dealer input and Dealer Wholesale Bid/Buy Sheets; competing TPG certifications; the POP status, and other inputs/research to set their Price Guide Values. In using the PCGS Price Guide or Coin Facts--which reflect the "Market Value" in their estimation--it may be more informative to look at the Trends (indicated in GREEN for an increase in price from the previous posting, or RED for a decrease in price from the previous posting) as a guide to what you may want to pay for a purchase, and the price premium for Plus (+) coins to help you decide if a Regrade in the existing Slab, or Breakout and submittal as Raw can be justified vs. the Submission costs.
I dunno...not that experienced or knowledgeble and so not sure what to believe/know, etc...if it's true of "where there's smoke there's fire"...but have seen and read this/that for some time that they seem to be in bed with each other somehow. Wouldn't surprise me.
NGC is the one that has the reported ownership group with them. This is nothing more than prices being captured and reported which as mentioned happens with many venues
Thanks for the comprehensive answer. I don't see anything nefarious about such data transfers. I think such rapid sharing of market price point information is valuable to the community, both collectors and dealers.
