Just curious about folks’ thoughts on this Barber Dime. It’s a better date in not so good condition, but has an interesting crack or cud on the nose. Any insight into this one? I do t think it is PMD because it is raised. Thanks!

The die either chipped off there or something post-mint smashed it down is about all I can think of.

I think I'd call that a die chip. very cool find!

    Nose job :inpain:

Remember.. A Cud involves the Rim and goes into the field..
    These are Cuds

It’s not a cud as cud’s must touch the rim but you do have the pork variety. Too worn to tell but it’s either a die chip that’s smooth from circulation or it’s damaged and worn smooth from circulation. It’s a better date so still a keeper.

The upper part of the nostril is obliterated and it looks like some kind of curved square covers that whole area. Hard to see how a die crack/chip would cause that. It's like somebody wanted to make Liberty the Clown out of it.

    Never heard of this.

Got it. I thought it might be a real thing, since there are other "cute" variety names and if this was a die issue there would be more of them.

I believe the proper term is, internal die break. Due to the coin being so worn, it's hard to tell what is going on.

Thanks - i checked that website, plus the older 'supplement to the Cud Book'. I just wanted to check the original book to see if it was in there.
