The 1913 Liberty Head? I am sure Hawaii Five-O was MAYBE .0000000001% of the purchase interest.

A gentleman over on Collectors Universe used to own the Hawaii Five-O specimen. Quite the coin for sure!

I'm surprised that you even know about the show :wideyed:

Here let me help your thread a bit..

Quote - "This nickel was featured in a December 1973 episode of the television show Hawaii Five-O, one of the most popular programs of the era. It was this episode, and this exact coin, that was responsible for making the 1913 Liberty Head nickel famous among non-collectors." Closed quote

Also.. I got to see an authentic 1913 Liberty Head Nickel at a ANA show
    Here are my pictures..

I'm old enough to have seen the first Hawaii 5-O. There was one episode with Ed Asner as a big time crook. I don't remember the coin though. However, there was another show in the second Hawaii 5-O with Ed Asner reprising his roll from the first 5-O. It was neat to have 5-O number 2 have Mr. Asner in it. I couldn't get into 5-O number 2 because of so many changes in actors. It was kind of funny that an actor in an earlier segment was a criminal but then later, became a member of 5-O.

I couldn't find a clip of the original show but I did find this trailer. :20 shows the coin briefly.
    Best TV theme song.

The website "Coins on Television" has pictures from the Hawaii Five-O episode.

The link is in the signature line.

This was I believe the Olson specimen and is the second finest of the five coins. The Eliasberg coin is the finest, and the McDermott specimen that Paddyman showed is the worst of the five and the only one that shows actual wear.

Asner played the same "bad guy" in the remake of H5O.

Seems like the only reason that the 1913 Liberty Heads are legal to buy/sell as opposed to the 1933 Saints is that the former traded hands several times out in the open.

    I see no "official release" of the 1913 Liberty's, right ? :D

Love it! Extra points for that portly villain character actor—I'm sure I've seen him in other things—and for the big Lincoln Continental as well.

Agree too about the theme song. It's my vote for best theme song tune from the 60s. Along with 'Bewitched'.

The 1933 Double eagle also traded openly many times and were evenly publicly advertised for sale before the government stepped in and shut down a 1944 auction once it was brought to their attention. Then they started confiscating them.
