This year I was chosen to send a Secret Saturnalia Gift to a fellow CT member who lives in Seattle, WA. According to the USPS tracking info the gift was delivered to his mail box 7 days ago, but I've gotten no acknowledgement from the recipient . About the same time the gift was delivered I remember reading that there was serious flooding in the state of Washington. Now I'm wondering if that CT member was impacted by the flooding, if the gift was left in the right mail box, if the gift was stolen, or if there was a tragedy in the family.... I'm perplexed as to what to do next . Should I send the CT member a PM & hope for a response or should I wait a little longer? The coin I sent him was in my collection for over 30 years & insured for $100.00 but is probably worth more than that. Pictured below are photos of the coin I sent.
Have you checked this member's profile to see when he or she last visited Coin Talk -- i.e., whether they've been here since the item was supposedly delivered?
Perhaps your idea was a very good one. Send him a PM. Then, if he does not reply in a short amount of time, you may have something to worry about. PS I never played the gift game. Is a reply required beyond simple etiquette.
Wow! I live in Bellevue, which is close to Seattle, and would have flipped to receive that coin... Sadly, I didn't sign up for Secret Saturnalia so I know this isn't me. In terms of the flooding, that's not an issue in Seattle proper. The major problem areas are further north in Bellingham, Mount Vernon, and the Skagit Valley. These are picturesque areas that are popular with birders, so I often see updates. I recommend contacting the CT member to double check. The one sad thing I can say is that the city of Seattle itself has a lot of petty crime. Mail and package theft are pretty common. Understanding the sources of this crime is a very heated issue around here, but everyone agrees that it's a problem.
Wowie, what a gorgeous gift! I certainly hope it is not lost. I wouldn't get overly concerned yet. Any number of things could be going on. A few years ago my recipient was traveling when the gift arrived so he didn't pick it up until some time in January. To whomever is my Secret Saturn this year: the address you were given is a friend's private mailbox, and the friend will then in turn bring it to me in the next couple of weeks... so don't worry if you don't hear that I've received it the day it hits the box.
I think the sources of the crime and the main reasons for it are extremely clear to anyone with a brain. Unfortunately, that discussion is not about coins.
Donna I took your suggestion & viewed his profile; he was last heard from yesterday at 10:29 AM. His profile also states he came from Buried, WA, but the address John gave me is in Seattle, WA.
At this point I'll send him a PM & hopefully get a response. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions . I'll report back if I hear from him .
It's Burien, not Buried, lol. Although I grew up in Seattle, and Burien always did seem a bit buried under Seattle.
Perhaps the recipient hasn't opened it yet? I hope it isn't lost. That is a beautiful coin and a wonderful gift.
That's what I would do, that said people get busy and priorities vary from collector to collector! good luck!
I got my gift last year a month before Christmas but I wanted to wait till then to open. Maybe a similar situation
green18, Living in upstate NY I know what you mean . Being a senior & ex Army combat Vet, I get a hefty discount on my school & property taxes .
I purchased the house I currently occupy at the right time ( 1976) to be under Calif. prop 13 law, as long as I do not make significant alterations such as adding more rooms or additional structures. I am not yet at paying twice the taxes as when I purchased at $35,000. At least one good thing about being older Jim
