Here is my interpretation of the Arch of Septimius Severus in 1 : 75 scale, including the long gone Quadriga carrying Severus and his sons Caracalla and Geta. I still need to print out the famous dedicatory inscription: MP · CAES · LVCIO · SEPTIMIO · M · FIL · SEVERO · PIO · PERTINACI · AVG · PATRI PATRIAE PARTHICO · ARABICO · ET PARTHICO · ADIABENICO · PONTIFIC · MAXIMO · TRIBUNIC · POTEST · XI · IMP · XI · COS · III · PROCOS · ET IMP · CAES · M · AVRELIO · L · FIL · ANTONINO · AVG · PIO · FELICI · TRIBUNIC · POTEST · VI · COS · PROCOS · (P · P · OPTIMIS · FORTISSIMISQVE · PRINCIPIBUS) OB · REM · PVBLICAM · RESTITVTAM · IMPERIVMQVE · POPVLI · ROMANI · PROPAGATVM · INSIGNIBVS · VIRTVTIBVS · EORVM · DOMI · FORISQVE · S · P · Q · R And here is a coin to justify this post L SEPT SEV PE-RT AVG IMP VIII – Laureate and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus right, seen 3/4 from behind ADVENTVI AVG FELICISSIMO S C - Septimius Severus, in military attire, on horse prancing right, raising right hand in salute; in front a helmeted soldier advancing right, looking left, leading the emperor´s horse by holding it´s bridle in right hand and vexillum in left hand Sestertius, Rome 196 aD. 30 mm / 19,06 gr RIC 719c (R2); BMCRE 596; Cohen 8 var. Excellent !!! Too bad there is probably no Lego block for Corinthian capital, but the lion heads are OK, they are an excellent substitution. One suggestion : you should complete the bronze statues on top of the arch. As we can see from this denarius, there was not only a central six-horses chariot, there were also a standing figure and a horseman on each side... (not my coin of course) There is also this hypothetic restitution by Jan Goeree (a Dutch artist c. 1700):
J.G., Congratulations on an excellent model of the Arch of Septimius Severus in Leptis Magma, modern day Libya, North Africa . Pictured below is a map of Leptis Magma showing the location of the arch within Leptis Magma (5).
Thank you! The OP building was supposed to depict Septimius´ Arch on the Forum Romanum in Rome, but in an earlier episode I had also presented my Lego incarnation of the Quadrifrons he left us in Leptis Magna, Libya, that you refer to:
that's a very nice representation! Do you take down previous constructions? Or do you keep them, and place them all together to perhaps rebuild Rome in lego one day?
all except one, they are all over my place. I did have to demolish the Theatre of Marcellus to get material for my Colosseum. To recreate ancient Rome I would have to settle on a certain scale which for my individual models is usually dictated by the limited types and sizes of certain parts, especially arches and pillars. The Lego Minifigures come in a scale of about 1:50, which fits my Ara Pacis for example, while this would not be feasible for a Colosseum. Mine comes in at about 1:150 which is about the largest size suitable for anyone who does not do this for a living, and most of my other buildings are somewhere in between. What should I do?
What you should do is build the Circus Maximus with a chariot race. Then mail it to me as my senior gift of Christmas yet to be………Quadrigas would be nice like Ben Hur…. My name on the structure as Richard Germanicus Greatus Guyus.
