I bought these notes today at the Long Beach Coin show and was curious as to anyones opinion of the value.
FYI, I was coin guy until today....got the bug for currency as well. Double up on my expensive habit, LOL.
all the 1953 series (A,B & C) red seal $2 notes book around $40 in GEM condition. about half that for CH CU and around $7-8 for VF. having pictures would help narrow it down to the value. now of course having the full strap will usually bring a nice premium. :thumb:
those notes look really nice. they could learn towards GEM. just depending if there are signs of handling. as stated before in GEM they book for about $40 a piece. having the whole strap adds a nice premium. i suggest you check out Heritage and look at old auctions. i am sure you can find something similar to gauge a true price. i would keep 20 get 25 or so graded and sell the rest in groups of 2,5 or 10 notes. now of course that is if you plan on selling them. enjoy your new purchase :thumb:
i think you got a great deal. you could resell half and make your money back :thumb: i was going to say the starp could be worth $5000 if sold together.
My own personal opinion is that they are GORGEOUS and the price reasonable - Congrats, I would be proud to own such a stack.
I like them too, although I would regard it as 1 item rather than 100 $2 bills. I think it has more cachet as a strap than it does as individual obsolete bills
2K is about right. I've never had much luck receiving much of a premium for consecutive lots. I like urbanchemist idea except I would have them all graded, as long as you can get them slabbed for no more than $10 each and ONLY by PCGS or PMG. This is of course, assuming that they are all CU and at least 1/3 come back as GEM.
