Im a bit new here to this forum but not so new to the collecting (15 years or so since i was 8) Why do they keep changing our change? First it was the quarters and i thought that was ok but then nickels and pennies and dollar coins It is kinda annoying to me. Mainly because every time i buy an album to put my coins in theres a "new" design and like the 04 05 nickels or the 09 pennies they make more than 1 for P and D and now i have to buy an "updated" page :desk:
haha yea but i still have to collect the new stuff before it skyrockets in value like those somewhat modern proof sets that are now 400 bucks a piece and i coulda had em at 50
Its all about making money. Lure in new collectors and maybe coin collecting will take hold of a million or so. Some will say its for the interest of the American public, somewhat true, but in reality its about these. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Let's see. From 1965 to 1998, the designs of all the coins that circulated changed not a whit. People started demanding changes of designs to something else for a long time. I remember when the bicentennials came out. That was great!
I think they should have changed the Lincoln side of the cent because the same old face for 100 years is boring and stagnant.
It does make album updates an annual thing but it makes searching your change just so much more interesting. I say change every denomination every year. Ditto for currency.
ill have to agree on that. nothing more exciting than getting some shiny new change and finding out its that one you didnt have yet. but im against needing update pages because they make more than one variety in one year
Because some stupid idiot started up a campaign and petitioned the govt. to redesign our coins. He should probably be shot
It's our governments method to ruin hobbies. For example at one time people collected USPostage stamps. Then the government started with a new stamp a day program, put movie stars on them, dumb designs just to irritate you. So naturally Stamp collecting died. Now they see how many people like coins so they are in the process of doing the Stamp thing all over. An experiment was the Bicentennial coins that failed. As soon as they saw this, they figured lets do this all the time. At first this did start a new generation of collectors. I feel these are all temporary ones that use those silly folders sold every where. Soon enough those will all be in a closet on a shelf under the shoes. Yes it's true attempting to use an Album when everything is running wild with so many new coins. The Lincoln Cent for 2009 now must have 20 slots for just that date. Lets just go back to the Liberty Standing, Sitting, Walking ones.
Walker halves are beautiful coins and second only to the PEACE dollar which is IMHO the most beautiful coin the US mint ever produced
Then it backfired on them. How many people actually collected Washington quarters before the State Quarter program began compared to how many have collected them since? Change sparks interest. The same old thing induces comatose reactions. Guy~
I would be happy with a walking liberty half for the rest of my life. And I collected the quarters before states! The eagle on the reverse is proud and American! I was under the impression that after the states (and only the states not the territories...) that they were going back to the original design
