Hello Coin People, I've only been collecting since 2007. I've learned quite a bit from this message board. I've learned to avoid the Franklin Mint and their gold dipped coin collections. I was up late last night and got roped into one of the shows I think it was called "The Coin Collector". They were selling PR70 condition 2009 Lincoln coins along with a set of "Ceremonial" coins. The four Lincoln coins where they (the city) were unveiled. I googled ceremonial coins and ebayed it too. Are these coins valuable? Ceremonial coins? What do you know about Ceremonial Coins? Thanks.
Another marketing ploy from "Stan and Ollie". HSN's "Coin Collector" should be viewed for entertainment purposes and only if there are no good college hoops playin' that evenin'.....
Actually a lot of those are sold on ebay. It is just something a little different on the slab. The third party grading companies also make more money each time they can come up with a special designation on a slab. Of course anything sold on TV is rare, sometimes even a sold out limited edition that by law can never be made again. Gosh, I'm starting to talk like those guys.
All the TV coin shows overprice there currency and coins. Don't give in to temptation and buy anything from them. Take it from someone whose been very disappointed each time I weakened. Foutunately their return policy is okay. But why bother.
Oh man, that is funny!! I know who they are and those two were so funny it still brings a smile to my face.
More than we would suspect. Look at the age poll - probably most do not know Stan and Ollie or Bud and Lou.
Gee I thought that everyone would know who Stan and Ollie were Another fine fix I've gotten myself into!
More marketing gimmicks as noted above. Remember to buy the coin and not the read oak presentation box. TC
For some reason I have the Coin Vault on. They have the 2010 silver eagle MS 70 in an NGC slabbed labeled the 25Th year of the Silver Eagle. Of course this is a limited addition for just $99.95 while the supply last. Oh my he just used the term "Eye lash away from perfection." Think I am going to watch the Monk marathon instead.
This is true 99% of the time. However, I have to say the 2009 Lincoln plan was one helluv a deal. I was able to get two rolls (P and D) ANANCS graded MS-65 or better and two ANACS slabbed MS-67 (P and D) for each issue. They included an ANACS certificate good for grading of any two coins of your choice with each shipment. I sold each of my grading certificates to off-set the cost of the shipment. All in all, after selling my certificates, I spent about $20 (or less) for each set of rolls and slabs. So, for about $80, I have certified P and D rolls and MS-67 slabs for each issue. As a hardcore Lincoln collector, this was a fantastic deal!
I bought the 2010 25th year label from the Coin Vault. I know it was a bad deal. I just had to have it. I was hoping the US Mint would do some type of 25th year coin for the eagles. The Silver eagles are just addicting.
Not a thing in the world wrong with making an informed decision and buying what you want. What I hate about these shows is how they appeal to grandmother's to buy for their grandchildren and keep quoting these out of this world leading numismatic price guides.
as for the coin vault, I watch them online just for entertainment. the other night I heard Robert Chambers say that they were taking a loss on a particular lot that they currently had on the screen, but they'd do it for their customers. I almost peed myself laughing. Lose money... maybe on the business as a whole, but never on the coins that they sell. oh, and FWIW I dated myself all through high school!
