Just picked this up on gc tonight. Common date, common grade, and I really don't need it, but just look at that tru-view! If it turns out that the coin even resembles that pic, wow! I mean, come-on, that tru-views a solid 66.
I've recently started a "watch-list" at Great Collections "for purely entertainment purposes". While I'm pretty strict re key date, info gathering and "focus group (what I tell my wife when I purchase and she says "Fine...whatever") criteria...I MUST admit that there's LOTS of candy and obscurities that tickle my slippery slope . My philosophy...if after due diligence you need it, go for it. You'll only kick yourself later and a perennial butt bruise.
It seems a weak strike (mainly OBV) and a couple of hits in prime focal areas on the REV hold it back from a gem BU grade. I also see a rim ding, but can’t tell how bad it is from the pictures. Personally I think they were spot on with MS64.
It is a nice acquisition for for about half of what the PCGS Coin Value is for an MS-64. It is a recent slabbing, so I seriously doubt that PCGS would bump it up to an MS-66 if you resubmitted Raw, and, an MS-65 might still be chancy; instead, may I suggest having a Dealer submit it to CAC for you as that would solidify the grade if it passes, and make it more closer in value to an MS-65.
Given that the price doubles in 65 I would suspect that its already been there especially if the submitter thought it was undergraded That said it is a cheap chance to take and send it so it cant really hurt trying
Just got her in hand, seems appropriately graded at 64. Just for the record, I was never operating under the delusion that I was buying a 66 for 50 bucks. But you gotta admit that tru-view is one fine Hollywood glamour shot.
I honestly wouldnt even call it a glamour shot, its not like it hid anything. Coins can still have eye appeal with hits and such and the GC photos showed nice surfaces as well.
