Was wondering if anyone knows what date the mint started taking "waiting list" orders for the Marine silver coins. I just noticed today that the singles have a message posted saying that the mint would still take orders even after the max mintage is ordered. Now I don't know if my coin is considered to be in the "waiting list" or if my order will actual produce the coin. Anyone know?

I believe they announced that they were sold out on September 15th. I put in my order for a proof and BU on August 4th. I received the BU yesterday and the proof is still on backorder till November 11th.

After getting the run around on my M.C. dollar,I found that I could get one from an online dealer for $39.95 + $6.95 shipping/handling with all packaging and C.O.A.,So I ordered one.Should be here any day. That's about $2 more than the final total from the Mint :) I guess the dealers got them at the early bird $35 price.
Mint orders are backed up to 11/11 I think.

I ordered a BU dollar from the Mint the first day they were available (8/2), and was notified yesterday (10/18) that it was finally shipped.

How can they be taking orders and issueing coins, after they allready sold out??? Are they, at this point, distributing the sets that others reurned?? if not, where are they getting the sets???

I believe that they took enough orders for a sellout. Then they allowed people to continue to order in the event someone cancelled their order because they got tired of waiting. This way they would not have any left over.

As of this morning, the mint website shows that this product is no longer available.

I don't know about waiting lists but I have received a post card from the mint saying that my unc USMC coin is being produced and expected to ship in November.

I received my UNC dollar on 10/21, and find that the surface finish is not uniform. The obverse has a shiny spot, about 3/16" diameter, in the center, and a "swirl" through the motto. Half of the field of the reverse is more reflective from the 10 o'clock to the 5 o'clock position. The strike appears to be excellent, and the detail is crisp and clear, IMHO. It appears the planchet was not properly prepared, also IMHO. I will keep it, as is, because I fear I would not get a replacement from the Mint.

    The Marines have landed!

OK...ordered the set mentioned in the above post from a dealer online 10-19 and today 10-24 it arrived. As I mentioned, only cost $1-2 more than the mint so maybe it's the way to go on some of these "trouble" issues.
    DanR...I put a pic of the invoice..still 39.95,maybe they're losing money.. :)
    but I doubt it.

I thought I heard they upped the mointage as is allowed in the law. Was this the case? If so, was it the first, or second mintage they already reached?

If you would have ordered it from the mint early it would have been $35 + $4.95 shipping or $39.95. You would have saved $6.95 but you got a good deal because I've seen these coins sell for more on E-bay. I think this coin will continue rise in price.

Yes they did up it to 600k - but they sold out. However - they continued to take orders even after that.

I think Katrina might have something to do with this. I read they held up deliveries to Katrina-ravaged areas, not wanting to send coins where nobody resided. Instead, the Mint waited until things settled down and if they still couldn't contact the buyers (or if the buyers still hadn't contacted them), they made those coins available.

Not sure where I read this, so it might not be correct. Makes a nearly interesting post, though. ;)
