Even though it came from a mint set, that is post-mint damage. I have no idea how, but the straight striations indicate something cut it. You should have left it in the cello. Kind of rare to have post mint damage straight from the mint.

What is it about "four slips in the rim" that make you think it less likely to be post mint? That would be a key for me that it was post mint.

Post Mint refers to damage after the strike. Keep in mind that the sets were put together form circulation quality coins by the Mint. If a coin was damaged after the strike, it could still end up in a set.

Since the coin was pulled from the set, the value has plummeted to one cent.

    Thanks,
    Bill

PS: even if it was left in the set, most people would avoid the set and purchase one with no damaged coins. A damaged coin in a set usually reduces the value of the set.

Bill you know me money is not an issue.
I know if I were to send it to a TPG it would come back as so type of planchet separation :kewl: with a 10x you can see plainly like it just flaked up the no scrapes it just split up in about 5 spots around the hole rim

I sure would have enjoyed one of the TPG's grade it b/c either way it's an error from the US mint. Sure, maybe it didn't happen during the actual minting process but before it got packaged, there was an error on it.

Too bad you don't have two jello. :D

My opinion is that it is a bad planchet.but we all know the one that counts in what a TPG places in the details

one part of the rim is lifted and moved, after striking. it can't be the planchet's fault.
