A while ago there was a post that brought up the names of some authors of historical fiction, mostly Roman but some Greek as well. I am an avid reader of such but was wondering if there are authors who write such fictional books set in the time period and place of the Byzantine Empire. Any readers know of such authors or titles? Thanks
I'm almost finished with this one. A large portion of the novel is set during the Siege of Istanbul. It's an interesting book for which I'm still forming my opinion. However, I do feel it's worth reading.
I liked these two by Gillian Bradshaw, set in the early Byzantine era: The Bearkeeper's Daughter Imperial Purple
Thanks. I had read the Bear Keeper's Daughter some time ago, an interesting bio of Theodora but the second one I will try to find. Thanks for linking my interest to that site. As you can see thus far, either not too many historical fiction writers choose the Byzantine Empire for their stories or not many people here on this site do. The historical fiction market is awash with those set in Republican or Imperial Rome but after the mid fifth Century, not so much. I know and have read the one on Belisarius by Robert Graves but other than that, apparently not too much is out there in hostorical fiction set in Byzantine times. Thanks again for that link.
Eileen Stephenson writes very good historical fiction on the 10th and 11th century of the Byzantine Empire. She has one non fiction book on the subject as well. You can find her books on Amazon. https://eileenstephenson.com
I will check that out. Earlier today I ordered several books by Gillian Bradshaw. thanks for the tip.
