This is a $100.00 Confederate States of America Note. It’s from 1864. I wanted an example and I bought this a few years ago. This is a counterfeit note. During the war years the counterfeiting of the Confederate Notes was a serious problem for the south. As the years progressed so did the counterfeit notes. Telltale signs are the ink bleeding through onto the reverse on one of the signatures. The back of the note being crooked, so to speak, and the feel of the paper. A lower price grade of paper was used to make this series counterfeit.
Yep, undermining the value of the currency is always a power that the government wants to reserve to itself.
And undermining another hostile government's paper money is a prerogative that many governments still perform. With the counterfeit CSA notes the $100 has a variety called the Havana counterfeit because it allegedly was printed in Cuba. In the United States Sam Upham was printing forgeries and selling them inexpensively to the consternation of the Confederate government which allegedly had a bounty out on his head.
Here is a genuine 1864 Confederate $100 note. Here is a Sam Upham counterfeit. And an example of the genuine note.
I have a few, well to many to post but here’s some of them. This is my only counterfeit CSA Note. This note contains two interest paid stamps. Then this notes serial number is 12345. And as noted on the back, it has exceptional paper quality. And this note while being trimmed tightly had an endorsement from the A.R. 30, which is the Arkansas 30th. And a beautiful green over print with a signature on the back.
