I hope I can break my addiction. 78 years old and trying to decide how to pass my collection on to 6 kids, 14 grandkids and 21 great grandkids. I don't need anymore. My collecting dream has been more than adequately fulfilled.

I don't have pics readily available. But the first coins my dad ever gave me we 2 proof sets from my birth year, 1983. They sparked a bit of interest and I thought they were pretty impressive looking.
It was a while later when he gave me an 1899-O Morgan (I'd grade it MS62) and then I was really hooked. He kept giving me proof sets for Christmas most years and sometimes other newer mint products. He also gave me proof and mint sets from his own collection/hoard, from the 1960's and 70's.
None of the modern stuff is really stuff I collect. But proofs certainly are pretty. And the ones that my late father gave me will always be a special part of my collection.

How often do you look at those proof ASEs. I had several complete date runs minus the 95W up until around 2008. I’d pull them out every so often then learned about the milk spotting issue. I subsequently dumped all of them.

Just joking, though i heard its best to avoid giving anything to your children, and give direct to the grand kids & great grand kids. but make sure they like coins or give them something else. Good luck!

I made all the little people type sets of the 20th Century with coins dated the year each of their significant relatives were born. Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Mother, Father and such. That was a bunch of sets (20 some) and I am getting low. I used my accumulation from 70+ years. Several have shown an interest over time and I reward that with more stuff on special occasions.

Nice idea! I want to put together a birth year type set for my son starting with my great grandparents birth years. That would mean starting with 1853.

The set I just made was for our youngest son. He was born in 1975. Fortunately, I had an extra 1875 IHC in my stash. I did get a lot of early coins for the other sets.
