Wake up and smell the roses! (War of roses edition)

Henry vii, the first tudor monarch of England, was the man who singly handily ended the War of the Roses. The War of the Roses was the dynastic war between the two main branches of the Plantagenet dynasty, the the house of York and the house of Lancaster. It was fought between 1455 and 1487 and saw the extinction of the male line of the Plantagenet dynasty and the rise of the Tudors. The man behind the rise of the Tudors was Henry vii; Henry was of welsh origin and had a claim to the throne through his mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort, who descended from Edward iii. Skipping to 1487, Henry vii, who had fought for Lancaster, became the last man standing for his cause as the House of Lancaster went extinct in the male line . He now had to face Richard III, the last standing Yorkist and the monarchy of England (which he got after the possible murder of his nephew, Edward V, one of the ‘Princes of the tower’). This all lead to the final show down in Botsworth field, which led to death of Richard iii, whom was buried in an unmarked grave (later found out to be behind a parking lot in 2012, which after much DNA testing and analytical study, lead to his official state funereal in 2015). Now with no one standing in his way, Henry VII set up the Tudor dynasty over the isles, which led to the split from Rome under his son Henry Viii, and the rise of his granddaughter, Elizabeth I. It should also be noted that by marrying his daughter, Margaret Tudor out to James IV, led to the later reign of the house of Stuart over England, due to the death of the childless Elizabeth I and James VI being the only person with Tudor blood being able to step up to the fight. Now for the coin.


Henry VII Ar half groat, Type III C Canterbury mint under archbishop Morton circa 1493-1499. One of the last (Henry viii had pennies and half pennies with him facing like a Plantagenet iirc) to use this medieval style like Henry ii and Edward I.
