'45 & '39 Merc's look decent enough Paddy. What's the date on the 'third'? Can't quite make it out.

JeffC Go explore something and think a happy thought!

I was wrecking my brains for the past half hour trying to figure out how you did that - narrow it down to those particular 2 years. I went to check the Redbook but couldn't find any clues or special markers for those two years. And then, I figured it out (I think). It's that circular loop? So I overlayed both 1926 and 1929 over Paddyman's SLQ. The 1929 fitted perfectly.

Amazing how you noticed it. I would have said dateless beyond the possibility of recognition. But no!

The SLQ was found near an old huge tree buried near its root about 6 inches down..
As I kneel on the ground with my heart racing with such finds I imagine someone sitting against the tree almost 100 years ago and them not noticing the coin dropping out of their pocket then slowly sinking into the dirt for it much time later be found by me!

25 cents in 1929 was worth about $4.04 in today's money. That wasn't an insignificant sum of money.
